INDIAN CHILD WELFARE PROGRAMThe Indian Child Welfare Program has been administered by the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma for the last year. The program director is Doug Journeycake. The Peoria Tribe is fulfilling the requirements for two of the Tribes in the Miami Field Office's service area. The Program has participated in a number of activities and attended several different training sessions, and was able to close some of the open cases in both state and federal courts. The activities the Program is involved in are: - Participated in Post Adjudication Review Board (PARB) case reviews.
- Participated in Ottawa County Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) case staffings.
- Conducted/Participated in monthly Child Protection Team (CPT) meetings.
- Participated in monthly court proceedings in the Court of Indian Offenses (CFR Court).
- Attended case review hearings in the State and Federal Courts.
- Attended Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) meetings held by the Northeast Tribal Health Center.
- Conducted Tribal Foster Home re-certifications in the State of Oklahoma.
- Participated in General and Special Council Meetings.
- Contracted with the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma for their Indian Child Welfare Services.
- Assisted the Wyandotte Nation, Eastern Shawnee Tribe, Miami Nation, Seneca-Cayuga Tribe and the Quapaw Tribe with Indian Child Welfare related casework.
- Monitoring of cases for tribal children outside Oklahoma.
- Participated in telephonic hearings.
- Participated in case staffing and Board Meetings of the Ottawa County Multi-Discipline Team
- Planned and participated in the "Week of the Young Child".
- Assisted in Child Abuse Investigations.
- Planned and participated in a Safety Camp for area children.
- Attended the Oklahoma Indian Child Welfare Association Quarterly Meetings.
- Attended Foster Home, Parenting Class Instructor, Meth Forum, & Child Abuse Trainings.
- Participated in Treatment Team meetings.
- Participated in Planning of a Juvenile Justice conference with the Oklahoma of Juvenile Affairs.
